Welcome to my income report for April 2021

In April I have earned $42 passively in total. 68% less than in the previous month.

What I Did In April

So what happened in April?

April was rainy and cold. Ideal weather for long coding sessions. So it is what I did, I sat down and pushed through the few goals I had in mind for quite a long time.

One is adding email alerts to the Financia web project and expand its data set with more property types. The second was to add additional trading signals to my crypto bot and ease the risk management a little bit.

My content plan went out of the window again due to a lack of time and energy. If I won't commit to creating content in the morning and throughout the day, then there is zero chance to be focused in the evening.

An ideal daily routine would be to start the day with a writing session, then do some workout, have a lunch, record some voiceover, then spend a few hours cutting and editing, go out for a walk to get sunshine, make dinner, and finally, after dinner watch some movie and work on software projects.

Unfortunately, there is a 9-5 job that blocks the majority of the day, while sucking the soul, energy, and creativity out of you. Ok back to reality...

Added Email Alerts And More Properties To Financia

The most wanted feature since the inception of the website was the mailing list alert. And guess what, in the end, none of the users tried the feature after all.

Regardless of what I was thinking about the feature added value, I decided to code it in the end. I was curious if it can increase the value of my product. Some competitors tout it as the main feature worth paying for. I was not so sure.

Mailing alerts might sound daunting when you say it aloud, but it is actually really simple, on the backend side. On the frontend through, you want to give the user a fully customizable experience. A lot of filters, a lot of moving parts dependable on each other.

Then you have to store those moving parts for later and recreate them in the backend to one piece.

It took a while to come up with the architecture, but I made it. Now mailing alerts will be a part of my every future project.

The second big milestone was adding house properties. Despite having a similar data structure, adding new property types was not straightforward. Especially due to much more complex valuation models.

I realized it only a minute after being halfway through coding. Then it hit me. Hell, I cannot use the same valuation method.

After digging up the 500 pages thick book about valuation methods, I said screw it. Just use some eyeball methods, that might throw some nonsense numbers for very remote properties.

But who cares? About 80% of all properties are colocated around each other, so differences even out.

Changed Crypto Bot Strategy And Its Risk

Since the start of the year, crypto raised to unseen levels. If my strategy previously floated mildly in the green waters, now it grew to a noticeable size, that can pay for a nice dinner.

All thanks to a system bug, that made me hold on to some coins. Trading made some too, but buy and hold was the winner here.

That made me think, that my Algo is too strict, and sometimes I miss obvious opportunities. I validated my hypothesis by looking at the backtests of my new trading signals, that I developed in March.

So I spent few weeks in April redoing the crypto bot, to accommodate new trading signals and leave it more room to operate. This also means being invested in shitcoins and risking huge 50%+ dumps if the whole crypto market goes down.

Fortunately, I would only risk my initial deposit and the gains. I survived the sequence risk from 2019 to 2021. I was hammered in 2018 though.

So if 2018 happens again, my more risky Algo would not survive the dump, albeit risking 1% per trade. But you know what. This time, the market is different. Crypto reached mass adoption, which also means it would recover rather quickly.

For every seller, there are more greedy buyers. So, let's see.

So far, the Algo loses money little by little as crypto trades rangebound after being at its peak for the past month.

Live projects

The Hustle App

I finally made it free, so you can check it out.

Good House Music

At the time of writing this post, it grew to 264 subscribers. A 7% increase over the previous month.

I have uploaded one DJ mix and only 5 new single tracks. The most viewed track recorded 88 views. Still far from the original schedule, but I am happy I am not missing any uploads.

I will keep uploading till I reach 269 uploads, then we will see if it is going anywhere.

Personal Youtube Channel #1

In April, I posted 1 new video on my personal Youtube channel. My most viewed video posted in April got 12 views.

Again, I was so stressed out from a 9-5 job I could not creatively focus on creating new content. Maybe I should not overthink too much and publish crappy videos as I did at the beginning of this journey. It does not need to be perfect. It just needs to be helpful.

I will keep uploading till I reach 246 uploads, then we will see if it is going anywhere.

Personal Youtube Channel #2

In April, I posted 1 new video on my personal Youtube channel. My most viewed video posted in April got 21 views.

In May, I will try to keep my original content schedule no matter what. As mentioned above, the only way to keep up with the schedule is to post low-quality videos. No matter how many dislikes I will get, this is the way.

Anyway, I will keep uploading till I reach 30 uploads, then we will see if it is going anywhere.

Financia

Already covered at the beginning of the post.

As for future plans, I will keep grinding and introduce new data sources. But only if made my homework and worked on content creation.

Income Report Breakdown

P2P Lending

Nothing has changed in April.

My P2P strategies are turned off and I am still waiting on the sideline. Most of the defaulted lenders are on an ongoing debt recovery plan, that will fulfill all the debts in the next ten years.

Savings Accounts

As of now, I still keep a small portion of money in savings accounts to cover my living expenses.

Stock Investing

Besides the loss, I talked about last month, my trades modestly recovered part of the loss. I learned not to bet against the skewness and to be more logical by asking repeatedly, well, logical questions.

Like how much I am confident in this and that signal. Or does today's price action seems weird?

Then I tried to not YOLO into risky meme stocks. Maybe except for Ocugen, Microvision, and Nio. I had Palantir in mind but always have set an unrealistic limit price.

Another lesson I learned was not to jump into a hyped IPO, like the one with Coinbase. Initial pricing was at 250 and when I saw the price at 400 at the opening, I felt a strong FOMO and put a limit price of 380.

We know now, that it fell like a rock and now I am bag holding with 30% loss. I do believe in turnaround since I am their customer and they were my first gateway to the world of crypto.

Coinbase operates worldwide and they have simply the best noob-friendly trading app. But they have fierce competition so this advantage won't last long. Well, until someone else decides to IPO.

Another lesson was not to keep eye on currency risks. Currency losses are a real deal and can span from -20 to 20% depending on the currency pair.

Unfortunately, my income is not in USD and EUR, so my unrealized PNL wildly swings every day. Had I paid attention to technicals, I could scalp few bucks by doing currency conversion.

Instead, I always had excuses like: why should I pay a 5 USD fee for every trade, or that I always need cash in USD at all times just in case I get assigned some share.

But now I know better. Five bucks are nothing compared to hundreds USDs of unrealized losses, and thanks to margin, I don't need to hold cash in USD at all times, as far as I keep my maintenance margin in check.

Of course, managing currency risks adds another layer of complexity and I know, that timing the market can backfire badly, but I should not leave the chips on the table, you know?

Used Stuff Sales

My path to life minimalism went well in April. No sales, but the fewer material things I own, the more freedom I get.

Plans, dreams, and wishes

My goals for May are the following. Make Financia better, work on the authority website and Ecom site, and produce video content on regular basis.

That would be it. Thank you so much for following me on this journey and see you in the next report.
