Is Jetbrains IntelliJ Worth The Money?
Pay $$$ for IntelliJ IDE or hack for free with VSCode?
After a month long trial using Jetbrains IDE.
I got spoiled.
And it has been a wild ride.
Few hundred of python codes later, here are reasons why I think You should consider switching:
✅ Refactoring is nice.
- No more broken imports, outdated paths or forgotten variables.
✅ Integrated DB editor, terminal, postman, git
- You have most in VSCode too, but integrated DB editor is next level developer experience
✅ All must have plugins available
- Github Copilot? Check. Rainbow indents? Check...
Now what really makes me stick with VSCode
❌ CPU & battery hog
- Startup is slow, but once is project indexed, you fly. But dont count on hustling 10 hours in coffee shop. 4 hours and your are out of juice.
❌ UX feels heavy
- No 1 reason why VSCode. Minimalistic layout with no distraction. Jetbrains? One too many sidebars, panels and icons you will never use.
With that being said. It has some value in not having to juggle between 5 apps and 20 context windows.
What do you think. Would you buy IntelliJ?
